Everyone is always looking for a way to make money online. Selling tshirts is just another avenue of this. Selling tshirts online to make money doesn’t have to be hard and you can earn a decent amount depending on what your goals are.
As a hobby designer and all around just funny guy. I always loved seeing shirts with funny sayings and eye catching wording. Recently i started to dabble in the Print on Demand Business. 3 months ago i finally made the jump and after 3 months and over 20+ shirts sold for a mere 2 hours of work. I have finally been able to understand the question that everyone always wants to know. How to make money selling t-shirts online i have found that there are 3 different ways to do this that i will list below. But before we get started check out my amazon sales for the past 3 months. I am actually making money! Can you believe it? Neither can i honestly.
How to Make Money Selling T-Shirts Online
How Do I Sell Tshirts online?
There are three ways to sell tshirts online from what i have learned over these past 3 months.
1. Print on Demand
The first on this list is print on demand. This is what my screenshot is above and how i earn most of my money from tshirts i sell. My favorite of the bunch because it will cost you nothing to start earning just your time.
How to make money?
Upload your designs to websites like Redbubble, Merch by Amazon, Teespring. These websites are big market places that allow you to upload designs at no cost. You can advertise your products by posting to social media or wait for someone to buy it based off of the tags you put in.
Earning money on these sites can be very easy. I recently started using Merch Informer. This company is a must have in the Print on Demand industry simply because they make it 1,000 times easier to find the items that are selling the best which allows you to create a better designed product.
2. Dropshipping/ Print on Demand.
This is not the dropshipping you are thinking of. You are not looking to find the products on sites like Aliexpress or Alibaba and have them Ship from china. This is still print on demand but with a dropshipping aspect.
A company like Shopify is the perfect host for any Print on Demand website you need to make. This is because they integrate with the best third party sellers on the web. Personally i use Printful, they are a big player in the Print on Demand space and for good reason. With great prices you can’t go wrong with anything they do.
How it works?
Printful along with other third party Print on Demand services work pretty similar to Merch By Amazon and Redbubble but instead of Amazon doing all the work Printful does. The benefit of Printful is you are able to charge higher amounts because you are not going to be competing on a marketplace. You have your own website so you don’t have to worry about people undercutting you.
Let’s do a quick example:
You sell a t-shirt on your personal site for $25. Printful Charges you a fee of $13 for making the shirt and shipping it to the user. Shipping costs $5 per t-shirt. If you do not ask the user to pay for shipping that means the total cost to you was $18. With a profit of $6 a shirt. That is not to bad. You have to remember though, this doesn’t factor in getting the users to your site. If you are someone who already has followers on social media this may be a good fit for you.
3. Order In bulk
The final way to make money from selling tshirts online is ordering in bulk. There are plenty of companies out there who sell you designs in bulk. You can easily google some websites that will provide this service for you. Personally i have used Rushordertees and have never had any problems with them. They have fair pricing and the quality of the design always looks great.
Ordering in Bulk is a hard sell for most unless you already have an audience eager to buy your Merch. If you are looking to make some serious profits in the Tshirt business this is who you will do that. With low price points and the ability to sell shirts at a valuable price you can easily make tons of money. The problem is the cost of entry is very high. Be ready to shell out tons of money .
Final Thoughts
If it was me that was just starting out i would start with the print on demand sites. Like i stated above Print on Demand sites like Merch By Amazon and Redbubble are free. They will cost you nothing expect your time. I have tried to build a brand with tshirts on sites like Shopify but they require a ton of work and tons of advertising to get started. If you want to make millions then go ahead with it or if you have a fan base. But if you are a newbie just starting out Print on Demand is the way to go.
